Applying For Registered Design Protection

The first step to obtaining registered design protection is the preparation and filing of a registered design application. In order to provide an accurate representation of the design for the application, we require different views of the design.  A registered design application in the UK may have up to 12 views of the design; in the EU, up to 7 views are permitted.

It is important to ensure that shading, colour, writing or other matter which you do not wish to form part of the design registration is not included in the different views .

Once the application has been filed, a filing date and application number will be allocated by the relevant design authorities. Depending on the country in question, a formal or informal examination of the registered design application will be undertaken by the design authorities and they will then decide whether to allow registration of the design application.

Our attorneys can conduct in-house preliminary searches and will prepare and file your registered design applications in a suitable format for any country in the world.
