Introduction to registered design protection
Registered Design protection is granted on the basis of purely visual representations of the design in question. To be registered, a design must be new, have individual character and be visible to the eye during normal use of the design.
A twelve month grace period is available which allows a design to be publicly disclosed prior to filing an application for the Registered Design. We recommend that an application is filed at the earliest opportunity to ensure that a third party does not obtain an earlier filing date for the same or similar design.
